dedicating this entry to my dear friends who are heading to shanghai this summer =) hope this can help you guys to have a smoother trip! i think i will start with some important website that helped me around last time.
Flight Tickets http://www.ntogo.com/index.aspx
I purchased my flight from here the last time i went to Shanghai. they are very nice and friendly. furthermore, i purchased openjaw ticket which allows me to change my flight dates whenever i want to. however, do note that the price does not include tax.
TaoBao http://www.taobao.com/
taobao is an awesome shopping site that has almost everything inside. you can check and compare the prices here before you decide to purchase it. it is trust-able and fast. girls will get addicted to this and shop 24/7. haha.
DianPing http://www.dianping.com/shanghai
this website have whole loads of review for food, services and anything else under the sun. if you are unsure about the restaurant that you will be trying out or the services is worth your money, you can always check this site out to see what other people have to say first. also, it is also good because there's a lot of promotion and recommendations inside. it's a good way to save money via printing the coupons out. if you are lazy, this site also have all the numbers of the shops. most of them provide FREE delivery. (that explains why i put on so much weight when i was there...)
google ditu http://ditu.google.cn/
i am not sure if you will be able to view this when you are in china since there's been an issue with google and china currently. however, this google map is the most comprehensive map i've ever used when i was in china. it has details of all the shops on it.
ddmap http://www.ddmap.com/
ddmap was recommended to me by one of my friends in Shanghai. it is mostly use for looking up places and how to get there in the shortest time via bus, metro.
Train Tickets http://www.huochepiao.com/
this is the official site for china's train transport. you can go to a lot of places with it and at a reasonable price.
Shanghai Metro Stations http://www.shmetro.com/
Shanghai has many metro stations. not sure where to change train and which is the fastest route. do check here for the full map.
do feel free to comment if you all need more additional information. i will try my best to give it to ya.
enjoy your internships people!
Cheers,
Fern
P.S. facebook, blogspot, youtube and twitter are BLOCK in china.

Chapter 22-21: the Chicken and Egg question
today, when i was sitting in the bus one the way back to malaysia early in the morning, i have really nothing else better to do then i thought about the heated chicken and egg question.
did the chicken come first or the egg come first?
my answer: chicken
if the egg comes first, who will sit on the egg and keep it warm till it hatches right? =P
another random post =D

Chapter 22-20: Busy bUsy buSy busY!!!
this week has been one hella week. working 3 part times and doing projects are not easy to juggle. furthermore, hostel event is coming up soon. keep forgetting about things that i need to do as well. am i just overwhelming myself?
i am actually enjoying being busy and filled with things to do. maybe because i am afraid that after the papers are submitted i will be lost and too free to do anything?
currently, the lifeskill trainer job with the secondary school is quite satisfying because the kids' attitude has changed a lot and are more serious to thing they are in charge of and also getting more and more mature. preparing them for their big day - OCIP to Bintan.
LBU's night shift job is just tedious. but no brain juice is needed during the process. just that now i rarely can have long dinners and also if i want to hit the club, it will be very very late. but still like what Myat said "we are paid sai kang warriors"
the UOB alliance thing is going quite well i guess. although the client does not really seem to be very impress with us or should i say trust students' recommendation. on the bright side, we have lesser to do i guess. working with the two gals had been heaps of fun. a lot of weird jokes and funny moments that make the crazy day less tiring.
last night stayed till 5am in school to get the strategy paper done. at least now i am left with one last paper - MCR. and also the long awaiting hostel beer night.
TOGA TOGA TOGA - yes, that is the beer night theme. we will be like the greeks doing the Olympics. just that you need to train your liver and your bladder to hold on to the night. may the strongest liver and bladder survive.
more to do...
ciaoz,
Fern

Chapter 22-19: LAST Presentation
yes. today was the FINAL presentation in my 4 year SMU life. maybe it is because of this reason that i felt stress and maybe because that it is 50% or maybe it is just because the idea and campaign we came out with is a bit too bold and daring.
anyway, i downed 2 cans of coke light and then after that i have a gastric pain chained from the stress i had on me.
keeping this post short to study for case and quiz later.
xoxo,
Fern

Chapter 22-18: Surnames - The Joke
just the other day, Rach and i was having some random conversation.
Me:"eh. don't so teh leh..."
Rach:"my surname is teh, that's why i can teh."
Me: =.= "ok lo. my surname is Lim. that's why i can drink."
(lim = drink in dialect)
LOL...
after that...
I thought about Kristin's surname and started laughing...
Kristin Loo... hmmmm... =P
for my international friends, this will help you understand the joke better: http://loo.urbanup.com/552884
another lame joke... to make the rainy weather colder... =.=

Chapter 22-18: The 10km Dash
yesterday Daniel, Myat, Vikram, Nayana, Janice and me spontaneously decided to go for a charity run - Metta Charity Run @ east coast (http://www.metta.org.sg/mettarun2010/)
a special thanks to the company who sponsored us and also special thanks to YC for letting us know about this event. it was awesome.
Picture taken after the run. everyone is happy =D
it is my first 10km run after i've started training since january. i've finished it in 51 minutes. which is quite surprising. although i felt like dying after that. i've pushed myself to the max during the run. many of time i feel like just relax walk my way back. but in the end i still pushed myself to run by telling myself "this is nothing compared to the sundown marathon that will be coming soon. if i cant make this thru. how will i make it for the sundown?"
after completing, i've learned something from the run.
note-to-self:
never drink lots of water one hour before run. because you will start looking for toilet when the run just started.
do not bring ipod along. in the end it will only become a liabilities.
The Highlight of the Day
the highlight of the day does not go to me for finishing 10km in 51 minutes. but it is until i heard the story about what happened to daniel...
it all started the night/early morning before the run....
at 2.30am, me and myat were feeling hungry and decided to head out for our usual supper... (yes, this is how we maintain our figures...) then myat asked if daniel wanna join us. but he did not follow us.
at 3++am, we were done eating and head back. according to myat, daniel had 3 packs of noodles... no supper eh? =.=
then at 5++am, he tried to release what he had eaten. but failed...
at 7.10am, we arrived at the run side and daniel rushed to the toilet after having some 'feeling'... only to realize that there's NO TOILET PAPER. lolx. (i can't stop laughing after i heard this after the run.) but this is NOT all... he reaches into his bag and guess what he found? myat's towel. immediately he got a sense of enlightenment and "aha!"
*the following scene is disgusting, i shall be nice and skip it since it is easy to guess what happened after daniel's "aha!". there's only one option left for him anyway*
and the most classic one was myat's helpless facial expression when he know what daniel did to his towel...
the lesson learned:
never to eat too much before a run.
check if toilet have toilet paper before proceeding.
bring a pack of toilet paper with you all the time.
lastly... NEVER PUT YOUR TOWEL IN DANIEL'S BAG...
that's all for now. time to do some work.

Fern

Chapter 22-17: abnormal sleeping patent
recently i've been having weird sleeping timing. or rather, weird patent.
been sleeping in installments. 4~6 hours at night and 2~3hours in the afternoon.
this is not good....
on the bright side, i got my cybershot back and i paid only 10 bucks for the repair. =D now the problem is, where did i left my memory stick? hmmm...
gonna go look for it and start shooting again, cybershot style!

Chapter 22-16: it's ALMOST over
well. it is week 9 already. with less than 6 weeks on hand till i end my university life.
feeling kinda mixed up. actually.
firstly, i feel confused because i am not sure what will happen after this 6 weeks come to and end. ending both university life and hostel life.
secondly, i still have not landed a job. maybe it is me being too picky? but i do not want to end up in a job where i have no liking in. i dont like the feeling of dragging myself up to get to work every morning and look at the time when i step in the office and start counting down the time to head home. i've done 2 internships. the first one makes me feel this way. exactly. i have no motivation whatsoever. the second one really is awesome. i literally cant wait to head to work.
attended the career submit last week. it was somewhat eye opening as i get to talk to each company to have a deeper understanding of what they are doing everyday and not just to submit my resume without knowing what i am getting myself into.
lastly, because that i have not found a suitable job, i am still standing on the edge of deciding where i should kick start my career. should i stay or should i go? i mean i am not bonded here, why else should i stay?
a lot to think about...
but, to set things right and to prioritize, i should just get my degree over and done with first and leave the others for later.
time to hit the books. yes. the books. not the bar.
